Yellow Dolomite are marbles. As all marbles they consist of metamorphic Calcium Carbonate crystals. During sedimentation and subsequent solidification part of the Calcium was replaced by Magnesium. This makes the stone a little bit softer, so it can’t be polished to a high gloss, but it makes it more resistant to acidity. Original sediment was very fine mud, so the stone is very fine grained, so it has a very low porosity and permeability. For these reasons the stone can be used in swimming pools, and in normal conditions it is also resistant against fungus. Most common application for yellow dolomite is in sanded finish, for terraces and in swimming pools. White dolomite is also used honed for flooring and cladding.
